'Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Knox of the City of Baltimore, do hereby for myself, heirs, administrators and assignees, assign and make over during her natural life, all my Right in or title to a negro servant Rhoda now twenty years of age, Purchased of Mr. John Boyle (?) of Dorchester County, State of Maryland in 1808 - Unto William Swan...to have and to hold the aforesaid servant or slave Rhoda and to dispose of her and her services - as to him may seem right or proper. Provided only that is sold by him to any other person or individual, it shall not be so as to send her out of the State of Maryland.' Sworn before the Justice of the Peace for the county.
